Bone Voyage

Sunday, January 29, 2006

Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts

Over the course of the past few months people have said to me, "T-Bone, why do you want to run for office after losing three times?" And my response is always, "Hey, look at the great Buffalo Bills teams of the early nineties. Those teams lost three straight Super Bowls, and yet they persevered and went to a fourth Super Bowl."

And so, I hereby announce I am spending for Governor.

Sincerely,
T-Bone

Statement of B. Thomas Golisano

Today I have changed my voter registration to the Republican Party.
Approximately a month ago Senator John McCain called me and made a convincing case that I could be a more effective advocate for reform as a Republican. Senator Joe Bruno and Congressman Tom Reynolds helped convince me that I could be most helpful to the cause of reform in the GOP.
Although I have changed my Party, I have not changed my principles.
I believe:
· New York State must get taxes, spending and borrowing under control.
· We must curtail the influence of special interest money on our politics and our government.
· State government must stop bankrupting our counties and cities by passing on to them the staggering costs of unfunded mandates.
· We must root out the billions of dollars of fraud in our Medicaid system and and New York State government must be conducted with the highest ethical standards.
· We must strive to make our public schools the best in the nation and broaden the ability of every student with a good academic record to go to college.
As someone who has created thousands of jobs, I still believe job-creation is the single greatest answer to New York's economic problems, particularly upstate.
I don't believe you have to be born into the Republican Party to be a good Republican, after all, Ronald Reagan, Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg all switched Parties to become Republicans.
I am most comfortable in the McCain/Reform wing of the Republican Party.
I have said that I am seriously considering a bid for Governor in my new Party.
I look forward to working with Republicans, Conservatives, members of the Independence Party and Democrats to end the dysfunctional nature of New York State government and once again make New York the Empire State.
